Positive News Surrounding COVID-19 -Paige De Giovanni
Although coronavirus may seem like the end of the world, there are actually some positives about the disease. Although it's a very tragic and serious virus, I've decided to take a more optimistic approach to report on coronavirus.
Coronavirus curbs deadly air pollution and CO2 emissions!
As the pandemic continues to spread, researchers are discovering the outbreak is creating positive effects on the environment.
Because fewer vehicles are out on the roads due to many people taking the necessary precautionary measures to avoid corona, emission levels have dropped drastically! Levels of air pollution in some cities and regions as coronavirus has stopped people from constantly traveling to work.
According to BBC, researchers in New York have seen carbon monoxide mainly produced by cars decrease by nearly 50 percent compared to 2019. CO2 emissions, which contribute heavily to climate change have also seen a decline. And in China, researchers found a reduction of 15 percent to 40 percent in output across the country’s key industrial sectors, including coal, oil refineries, and flights, which is said to likey wipe out 25 percent or more of the country's CO2 emissions over the past month.

In the tines of being pessimistic (and rightfully so) about all the negative news today, it makes me beyond happy that there are multiple news sources about something that is FINALLY making positive effects on the environment that is plain to see by researchers and scientists. Maybe making times to enforce isolation or creating deadly viruses and more pandemics is the new way to combat climate change!

Who knew that the corona-virus would benefit the environment?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad some good can come of this. Maybe there's hope for our environment after all.
ReplyDeleteI love the positive take on things! Did you see that the water in Venice is clean and clear and dolphins were swimming in it. I hope we come out of this and change our ways and lives to keep this going.
ReplyDeleteI saw an instagram post about that which inspired this post! I really hope this is a call to action to heavy polluters!
DeleteIt's nice to know that good things have come from the corona virus! I wrote my blog about positive events too!!
ReplyDeleteI saw a TikTok about this stuff! It's a little relieving that something good is coming out of this tragic situation!
