Pros and Cons of Covid-19: Anthony Del Coro
In this scary time everyone knows about covid-19 and how it has changed all of our lives drastically. Around the globe there have been over 20,000 deaths, and that number continues to grow. There are also over 500,000 confirmed cases of the virus, the actual number is most likely much higher. Adults and kids around the country are forced to stay home due to health concerns and there have been major layoffs in multiple industries. With the economy continuing to crash it doesn't seem like there is an end in sight. Not to mention the fact that there is absolutely no where to go. Almost everything besides the grocery stores are closed and when you go to the stores there is hardly anything on the shelves. On top of that almost every single school in the nation has closed and caused mass panic throughout the country.
Despite all the negatives there are some positives to come out of this mess. With the social distancing and the lack of travel, the one thing that has flourished during this time has been the environment. BBC news estimates that efforts to control the virus have caused emissions to decrease by almost 50 percent in New York. Emissions in China dropped 25 per cent at the beginning of the year as citizens were told to stay home. In addition, satellite images suggest that NO2 emissions have diminished across northern Italy, Spain and the UK. The CNBC estimates that air pollution control has saved an additional 50,000 lives in China. The water running into the Venice canals, Italy is now clean and the fish are visible thanks to less water contamination, according to CNBC as well. Environmental changes are an unforeseen byproduct of the novel coronavirus. It's amazing how rapidly the changes are noticeable is amazing.

The environmental changes are amazing.
