The Outbreak of the Coronavirus - Andy Stefancik

Another Month of 2020 has come and gone, and the year hasn't gotten any better yet. There have been so many tragedies this year already, and it doesn't look like 2020 is going to let up any time soon.

That being said, this month's blog topic was current events, and for the life of me, I can't think of anything to write about. I've been brainstorming for two weeks about what to write my monthly blog about, and I just can't think of anything going on in the world right now. So here I am, on March 30th, trying to think of something to write.

Infant dies of coronavirus in Illinois, a first in USIn all seriousness though, this month has been full of current events, namely the outbreak of the Coronavirus. Although the first case in the United States was reported on January 22nd, the outbreak has picked up beyond words since then. On the first day of March, there were only 30 confirmed cases throughout the United States. Today, there are 144,280 cases, with more than 2,500 deaths. Over a span of 30 days, there was an exponential increase in the amount of cases and the United States is basically shutdown. Everyone is advised to stay in their own homes and not make contact with anyone except immediate family. Schools across America have shut down and students are practicing distance learning. The stock market is constantly dropping and hospitals are overflowing with people who have the virus. It is a very dangerous time right now in the U.S, and we really don't know when it will end. Some experts predict the virus will peak in a little under a month from now, while some say it won't peak until May. Either way, the whole country is in a major crisis right now, and we don't know when we'll get out of it.

In an attempt to end on a positive note, I think it is fair to say that while this virus may be putting the country in a very difficult situation, I believe that when this is all over, we will hopefully be a nation that is closer together than ever before. Because I think that together we can overcome this challenge, and any other obstacles that come our way, and hopefully this virus will show that about us.

  1. I agree with your conclusion that we will be closer together as a nation when this is all over. Good job! How are you doing during these tough times? I hope you and your family are doing well, hopefully see you in school soon.
