Quarantine Book Review by Shaelin Murphy
Since we’ve been off of school, I’ve had a lot more free time than I’m used to. With all this free time, I’ve had a lot more time to read. I’ve read a lot of books these past couple of months so I’ve decided to share some of my favorites.
What She Knew by Gilly Macmillan: This book was one of the first ones I read so it isn’t exactly fresh in my mind, but I really liked it. This book is about a mother, Rachel, who goes on a hike with her eight-year- old son, Ben. At a certain point in the trail, Ben asked his mom if he could run ahead to get to the tire swing that was on a tree. She let him go with their dog, and when she got to the swing, Ben was nowhere to be found. The book is about the crazy investigation to find Ben. Everyone, including Racel’s closest friends and family, blame Rachel for his disappearance. Driven by her guilt and love for her son, Rachel risks everything to search for her son. This book was super suspenseful and I recommend it to everyone!
Love the One You’re With by Emily Giffin: This type of book is not usually something I would be interested in, but one day I just decided to try it, and I ended up liking it. This book is about a woman named Ellen who has what seems like “the perfect marriage.” One day, she runs into Leo, her ex boyfriend who she never really got over. This book was definitely a little cringey, but it was interesting and I liked reading something different. I recommend this to everyone.
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides: This book was definitely one of the best ones I’ve read. I also found out that it’s being made into a movie which is cool. This is about a woman, Alicia, who kills her husband and then refuses to speak. The story is told mainly from the perspective of the therapist who is convinced he can get her to speak. The ending is such a plot twist and a surprise and I loved it!! I highly recommend this book!
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins: This book was also really interesting, and it’s been made into a movie. It is about a woman, Rahcel, who is at a low point in her life. Everyday, she takes a train into London, and she passes the same couple having breakfast every morning. One day, she witnesses something concerning while passing them, and becomes wrapped up in a police investigation. This book was told from multiple perspectives which makes it super interesting and I recommend it to everyone.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn: This was by far the best book I’ve read in a long time! It’s super interesting and suspenseful. It’s about a woman who goes missing and her husband is the main suspect, but he swears he didn’t do it and he has his own theory that no one seems to believe. About halfway through, there is a huge plot twist but I don’t want to spoil it. It is told from both the perspective of the husband and the wife, so it is interesting to see both of their thoughts on their marriage. I HIGHLY recommend this book.
So many good ones! I'm so glad that you've had more time to read! Keep it up!
