This year has been nothing less of cursed. Not even halfway through the year, there have been terrible events happening in each and every month that have effected billion of people worldwide. From Kobe Bryant's death to the global pandemic, to the injustice deaths of many black Americans, this year has been a complete disaster and I think it will go down in history as one of the worst years to ever be recorded. With all of these terrible events happening I thought it would be refreshing to give anyone who reads my blog posts good news to hold onto. I have done blog posts like these in past entries but I think more now then ever is a good time to have some positivity.

1. Bionic Eye, As Sensitive as The Human Retina, May Give Sight to Millions
When someone loosed their vision, there has been no current methods to cure it and give their sight back. This prosthetic developed by engineers from Hong Kong and the U.S. gives hope to the hundreds of millions of people who have lost their eyesight due to macular degeneration or eye injuries. This technology allows electrical wires formed from liquid metal that is sealed inside rubber tubes run to the external circuitry for processing the image after light enters the eye.

2. The second patient has been cured of HIV
Through stem cell transplantation from donors with an HIV-resistant gene, there was no active viral infection in the patient's blood 30 months after they stopped anti-retroviral therapy. HIV was first discovered in 1959 and this form of treatment is a breakthrough in better the lives of those infected. This virus attacks one's immune system and over time weakens the immune systems making them more susceptible to common diseases and colds that hay be fatal.

3. First Hybrid Floating Ocean Platform Can Generate Power From Waves, Wind, And Solar
With climate change being a major threat in the future, scientists have been desperately trying to find ways to make energy in a clean and renewable way. The ocean offers many renewable resources and this device allows us to take advantage of them. It can generate power from the force of the water underneath as well as the wind and sun above. Implicating this power source is one step closer to cleaning our polluted world.

          When I contemplate what is most important in my life, my mind is drawn to my 21-year-old brother, Tom. There are not enough words in the English language I could use to describe what he means to me. I cannot imagine the past fifteen years of my life without him. Allow me to start from the beginning.           Even when I was an infant, he never failed to take me out of my crib, strap me in my high chair, and cook scrambled eggs for us (at the tender age of six). Not Fate, Just a Coincidence - Sila Paniker

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. The idea is that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Essentially, small changes can have large impacts. In my head, this connects with the thousands of tiny decisions we subconsciously make each day. There are people I've met or things that have happened and it feels like it was meant to be but they're just a bunch of coincidences that had the ability to change everything.
