Not What I Anticipated - Sila Paniker

91% of students isolated amid COVID-19, girls suffer most: UNESCO ...

This school year was nothing like I expected it to be.

It started off pretty average but the second half of the year was far from normal. This whole situation really goes to show fast things can change completely. For me personally, it's just meant being home 24/7 but I know things have changed tremendously for other people. People have lost jobs, family members, and much more.

I reread my September blog post in which I talked about my feelings for this school year. I mentioned the workload I was expecting, my sleep schedule and various other things. I had no idea what this year would turn into and why would I? There was no way for us to anticipate this but it's honestly kind of funny to compare the expectations versus reality.

"It's still bearable at this point because we're still starting the year but when we get to the peak of learning, I'm not sure how I'm going to handle it all."
I was worried about how I'd manage all the work and studying I'd have to do. But by the time we got to the "peak of learning", we were all home, learning on weekly google meets from the comfort of our homes. I don't even remember the last time I had to study, considering all our quizzes, though I haven't had many, have been open note.

"I also didn't bother correcting my sleep schedule so I started the year with awful sleeping patterns."
In the beginning of the year, I was used to going to sleep at crazy late hours and waking up when I desired. While I had normal sleeping hours for the months we had school, my sleeping schedule is right back where it started, a mess.

"When I set my alarms on the night before the first day, I was excited to see my friends and get a feel for how the year would be."
Nothing could've given me a feel for the year. The beginning of this year was a whole different experience from what our last will be. Also, I wish I could see my friends.

Those were just some of the things I said in September that are comical now. This school year has been crazy and I feel like there was barely a time where things were "normal".  By the time we settled in, it wasn't long before things changed completely. Yet I kind of enjoyed this year. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot I'd change. But I think this break has allowed for some things I wouldn't have experienced otherwise. Now, it's time to wonder about junior year and see if I can possibly anticipate what it'll be like.
