Please Just Stay Home - Nick Hwang

About an hour ago I discovered that the blog topic for this month was things we have already done in class. We had just done poetry a week ago, so I figured that I would do some poetry. While brainstorming ideas for my poem, my mind went blank, so I decided to write a poem about social distancing, in hopes that people might read it.

Stay home - Nick Hwang

It’s a hindrance to us all, it’s a testing of the soul

As our patience starts to fall, in our heart burns a hole

As we await the time to come where we can once again see friends

We start to grow very anxious wondering when this crisis will end

Just a little bit of freedom is what everybody seeks

‘Cause it ruled out lives for months instead of just a couple weeks

Everyone is tired of this virus because it is such a fuss

But when you think about it there are many that have it worse than us

Tom’s dad got laid off, the family has no money coming in

Not enough money to afford basic necessities required within

Malnourished and depressed this kid’s body is paper thin

Yet we are letting online schooling get all under our skin

I see people complaining about not being  able to see a mate

Meanwhile some families can’t afford to put food on their plates

I see people disregard the rules to go out with friends and play

Meanwhile they are extending the period in which inside we will stay

Extending the time before Tom’s dad can go out and work once more

Prolonging the time Tom’s dad will be able to go out to the store

So is it really that bad to just stay inside your home

Having fun with family and taking classes on google chrome

Or do people need to break the rules in order to be satisfied

Bringing less fortunate families down, while their jobs are denied

  1. Nice poem! I think that this is very true. We all have to recognize that many people have it much worse than we do, and that we should do what we can to help them.

  2. I like seeing your creative side here. I read something that staying home or wearing a mask is a way we can all be respectful to one another. It's pretty simple and I think easy to follow.
