The Final Stretch by Casey Coleman

I think I can speak for most of my classmates that we're all eager to be done with school. Although everything's online and at home now, I am still feeling the same urgency for summer as I would if we were in school. As the school year ends, I'm curious to see what these final weeks will look like since we're doing online school. We don't have finals this year which relieves a lot of the stress I was feeling at this time a year ago. We also won't have a traditional last day of school. Usually, we say goodbye to our teachers one last time, see our classmates one last time, but now this is all going to be virtual. It is going to be extremely weird to join my last google meet, meaning my sophomore year of high school is over. I don't think anyone could have imagined that this was how this year would go. I'm super hopeful for this summer though and that some of the restrictions will be lifted. My fear is getting my hopes up and having to spend the summer how we just spent spring. I've also heard people saying that there's a chance we won't be going back to school in the fall. This really gets me worried because that means my field hockey season will also be affected. Although online school has been running smoothly, I feel like if this goes on into next year it will be a disaster. For a lot of people, one of the most important parts of school is socializing. Without this, I feel like I'm just kind of going through the motions of my work and not really taking any of the information in. Every day I'm trying to remind myself to be extremely grateful for my family and I's health and to just stay positive. Summer is probably my favorite month so I hope everyone can enjoy it while staying safe and healthy.

    I agree that the end of this year is not what we want or expected and it does really stink. I hope that you can get your season in and we have a more normal school year next year.

          When I contemplate what is most important in my life, my mind is drawn to my 21-year-old brother, Tom. There are not enough words in the English language I could use to describe what he means to me. I cannot imagine the past fifteen years of my life without him. Allow me to start from the beginning.           Even when I was an infant, he never failed to take me out of my crib, strap me in my high chair, and cook scrambled eggs for us (at the tender age of six). Not Fate, Just a Coincidence - Sila Paniker

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. The idea is that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Essentially, small changes can have large impacts. In my head, this connects with the thousands of tiny decisions we subconsciously make each day. There are people I've met or things that have happened and it feels like it was meant to be but they're just a bunch of coincidences that had the ability to change everything.
